On 1st July 2010, following their merger, Orange and T-Mobile launched a new venture called "Everything Everywhere".

 

Today we have created the country’s biggest communications company,” said Alexander, the CEO of Orange UK. “As the new leader in the industry, it is our aspiration to give our customers instant access to the world around them, to everything everywhere, through both of our brands, Orange and T-Mobile.”

 

What a load of bollocks...

 

Poor customer service, underhand legal tactics and governing bodies, wetter than a haddocks swimming costume, are to blame for scores of Orange customers leaving to join other ISP's.

 

Orange was once a brand leader.  Orange took a no nonsense lead in its mobile phone market and gave customers an unrivalled customer service with UK call centres and fair tariffs and deals.  It began its broadband service by buying out "Freeserve" and taking over its loyal customers.

 

However, recently, greed and poor service have seen the Orange brand overall rating drop to 67%.  That's one in three people do not like the way they are doing things.  The future might be bright, but it certainly ain't Orange - hence the re-brand.

 

Did  you  know?

  • The maximum monthly download limit for Orange's Home Select package is just 5Gb!

  • Despite the fixed limit, Orange believes it does not have to tell you what it is.

  • Orange will reduce your download speed to 512kbps, without warning, for a period of three months, if you exceed this limit.

  • Orange will continue to charge you at the full monthly rate.

  • No reductions will be given for any months that you are under the limit.

  • Orange calls its fixed-line broadband service "unlimited" even though it has a limit of just 5Gb, less then some mobile broadband packages..

  • Orange is a signatory to Ofcom's "Voluntary Code of Practice: Broadband Speed", but DOES NOT adhere to the guidelines.

Thought not.

 

In a recent Uswitch.com poll, just 44% of Orange Broadband users were satisfied with their customer support.

 

This 2010 Ofcom survey similarly shows how poorly Orange's customers rate this ISP...

Already an Orange customer?  Unfortunately, you have already agreed to Orange's Fair Use Policy without being told what that actually means.

Why have one?
Nobody disputes having a Fair Use Policy.  However, we would all like to know what the maximum monthly download limits actually are!

 

It's like being told that subject to certain rules, you can drive as fast  as you like on the roads.  However, they're not going to tell you what the maximum speed limit is.

 

Am I likely to be affected by the Fair Use Policy?
Very likely.

 

How can you expect to observe the correct speed limit if you don't know what the speed limit is, how fast you are currently going and what the penalties are for breaking the speed limit!

 

If you don't download large files from the Internet it's unlikely you'll ever be affected by this policy.

So don't download things using the internet?  BBC iPlayer recommends a minimum download speed of 1Mbps and several other online games require faster speeds than 512kbps.  This makes Orange Home Broadband "unfit for purpose".

 

So much for unlimited internet!

What will happen if my use is very high?

Orange will cut your speed to 512mbps for a period of 3 months.  Even Orange's Terms of Conditions state "while we continue to keep an eye on your usage".

 

Why not just tell the truth?! It's 3 months!!!

 

MAC it so!

 

If you are a current Orange customer, you can switch ISP's easily, and usually for free, by requesting a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) from Orange.  Call 0844 873 8586, press lots of buttons, usually 1's and 2's, enter your telephone number when asked to do so to speed up the process, wait for a very long time and when you get through to someone who can barely speak English in a Third World call centre, tell them your number again and ask them for a MAC code.

 

Give this MAC code to an ISP of your choice and very soon you will re-join the modern world of internet technology along the information superhighway...

 

Not an Orange Customer?

Good.  There's still time to join an ISP who will not cut off your broadband without notice, for breaking an unspecified download limit for 3 months, whilst still charging you the full amount...

 

There are plenty out there.
